Edward Jarka, O.D., M.S.
He concentrates his clinical practice in the treatment of ocular disease with a special interest in the diagnosis and management of ocular surface diseases.
He is currently working on new diagnostic approaches for dry eye and is developing unique treatment for dry eye including the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP).
Dr. Jarka pursued a wide variety of clinical and research opportunities prior to joining the faculty at UM-St. Louis in 2003. He has been in private practice and a staff member of a large staff model HMO. In 1994 he joined the CIBA Vision Corporation as a Senior Research Optometrist and worked on a number of projects that led to products in use today. The desire to concentrate in primary care led him to the Danville Eye Clinic, a large optometry/ophthalmology practice in East Central Illinois, where he concentrated in pediatric and primary care optometry. He has served as a consultant to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville and a member of the staff at the Provena United Samaritan Medical Center of Danville, IL.
He obtained his M.S., with emphasis in microbiology, from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois and his Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry. He is also a member of the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society.
